Abstract:
How many people in the world would refuse a life-saving drug until it is available to all? Abdurrazack 'Zackie' Achmat came to the world's attention when he refused to take antiretrovirals until they were freely available to everyone who needed them. He first participated in the 1976 student uprisings at the age of 14 and has been campaigning tirelessly for social justice ever since. Over the years, his focus has changed from the predominantly political issues of the 1970s and 1980s to more immediate, grassroots social justice issues.
